Who we are

I’m Hazel – founder of The Extra Daughter and a proud family woman through and through.

I come from a close-knit, family-focused background, and when my husband, two young daughters, and I moved to Grantham, it was with one goal in mind: to be closer to the people we love. We were drawn here by the peaceful pace of life and the strong sense of community – an environment that’s perfect for raising our girls and staying connected to our extended family.

For the past decade, I’ve worked in Adult Social Care and Health, working in both the Enablement Team and Arrange Services Domiciliary Care service, arranging care packages for older people and the physically disabled. Both roles involved supporting people to regain their independence and live with dignity – it gave me a deep understanding of how vital the right kind of support can be. I’ve seen first hand the difference that loving, consistent help makes, and also the heartache families experience when that support just isn’t available.

The idea for The Extra Daughter came to life when I moved away from my own ageing parents. I realised how hard it was to find someone I could truly trust to pop in, help out, and care of them the way I would. I didn’t want a rushed, clinical visit from a faceless agency – I wanted someone who cared deeply, who noticed the little things, and who took pride in showing up like family.

That’s what The Extra Daughter is about: offering the kind of thoughtful, loving, proactive support you’d expect from your own daughter. Whether it’s helping with everyday tasks, offering companionship, or simply being there when family can’t – we’re here to make sure no one feels alone or overlooked.
